A core message of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, otherwise known as ACT, is to accept what is out of our personal control and focus on what we can change. From that point, we can commit to actions that enable us to improve our lives.

ACT has a central intention: to make the most out of human potential, giving each individual an opportunity to live an enriched life full of purpose and meaning. You learn how to:
  1. use psychological skills in order to manage painful thoughts and feelings. These skills are known as mindfulness skills and by using them, you decrease the impact and influence of these negative thoughts over your life;
  2. make sense of what really matters to you: what’s meaningful and important; your values and how you want to live your life; and
  3. incorporate this new knowledge and skills into your daily life, motivating and empowering you to change your life for the better.
